The tea room at Expressions Tea and Gifts is located inside our unique gift shop that is operated by Oakwood, a training facility for persons with developmental disabilities.
The tea room offers a prix fixe full tea service in a relaxing atmosphere where guests can casually enjoy a special meal. Each tea service offers six savory and sweet items plus two beverages.
For persons with special dietary needs we can accommodate most requests. We have a Registered Dietician on staff who will work with the Chef and his staff to prepare special meals for diabetic, gluten free, food allergies, etc. Feel free to let us know if you have special dietary needs.
CHEF SHANNON STEVENS
Meet the newest member of the Expressions Tea Culinary Team!
Beginning at a young age Shannon had dreams of becoming a chef. His dream was born out of watching great chefs like Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, Martin Yin and Justin Wilson on PBS. These incredible chefs took him to countries and regions with cuisines he could only dream of having the opportunity to enjoy. Years before the Food Network he was watching his grandmother prepare traditional Appalachian favorites that dated back to her youth during the depression. He took this passion for food and forged it into a career plan as he entered is final years of high school. It wasn’t but a few weeks after graduation when Shannon began his culinary journey at Sullivan University in Louisville KY, where he earned an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts as well as one in Baking and Pastry Arts.
Shannon entered his professional life working in fine dining restaurants, private dining clubs and professional catering companies honing his skills. One event for the Board Members of a local Hospital resulted in a career path he would have never dreamed of. The learning curve adapting to such a different skill set was difficult at first but his big heart and passion for serving others soon brought a level of gratification that he was missing in other sectors in the food industry. He realized that feeding people good food is one thing, but when at times that may be all they have too look forward too it takes on a much deeper meaning than just having a full belly.
With more than twenty years in foodservice and fifteen of those as an Executive Chef, Shannon hopes to put a little of his creative southern charm into everything he serves. He is excited to work with the great team at Oakwood and Expressions to provide memorable meals and unforgettable experiences for the clients and guests we serve.
